You could win a $10,000 journey to Your Family's homeland

But what if you don't know where your family is from? As you may have heard, Who Do You Think You Are is back for a 3rd season and Ancestry.com is running a Sweepstakes.

Martin Sheen led off the season and will be followed by Marissa Tomei, Blair Underwood, Helen Hunt, Jerome Bettis, Robb Lowe, and Paula Deen among others. It's a great show, but they sometimes make genealogy look too easy.

The Ultimate Family History Journey Sweepstakes from Ancestry.com offers genealogists a chance to win some great prizes including the trip of a lifetime to visit their home countries, while others will win memberships to Ancestry.com. To Enter, visit www.ancestry.com/sweeps, or www.ancestry.ca/sweeps (if you are a resident of Canada, however the contest is void in Quebec), and follow the links and instructions to complete and submit the registration including a valid home address.

I took a look at the official rules, and the grand prize includes a trip for two to the winner's ancestor's country of origin (country subject to Sponsor’s approval), $2,000 spending money to use while on the trip and a 6-month subscription to Ancestry.com plus a DNA test. There's nothing, however, in the rules that specify how an "ancestor's county of origin" is determined, and what (if any) proof is required. Maybe they should include 60 hours of professional research!

Make sure you read through the materials carefully, I noted on one page it states, "Sign back in every day until May 18, 2012 to improve your chances of winning." Good luck!
